Substitute Teaching

As a sub I usually avoided teaching in middle schools, but sometimes made an exception for Special Education classes.
One middle school class of severely emotionally disturbed kids had a full time psychologist working with them and had driven a classroom aide to a nervous breakdown. Few other substitute teachers were willing to teach that class more than once so I was often called to work with them when their teacher was unavailable.
Those kids usually behaved fine for me because I had a secret weapon; my daughter was one of the popular kids in the school and they didn't want to make her angry by treating her mother badly.
Even kids with serious emotional problems care about being accepted by others.
